This non-clinical course is run jointly with the Faculty of Engineering. It gives you a comprehensive education in basic materials science and the use of materials in dentistry and surgery. Teaching contact hours. This is a distance learning programme and the overriding student-learning experience is guided self-study. Guidance is received from academic staff via the programme materials which are designed for self-study, telephone, Skype and e-mail communication, and by optional attendance at Study Days.
Distance learning provides access to learning when the source of information and the learners are separated by time and distance, or both. During this type of education students communicate with the faculty and other students via e-mail, electronic forums, videoconferencing, chat rooms, bulletin boards, instant messaging and other forms of computer-based interaction.

Applicants must have a first-class or high upper second-class honours degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant discipline and meet the University’s Standard English language entry requirements.
